Ubisoft has quietly delisted its recent YouTube video announcing the implementation of NFT technology in terrible shooter Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The trailer premiered the “Ubisoft Quartz” beta, which would see limited-edition in-game cosmetics — or “Digits — added for purchase in future Ubisoft titles.

This morning, however, the YouTube trailer has been set to “Delisted” by the uploader, following what appears to be an overwhelming torrent of negative feedback. While the video sharing platform had recently removed visible dislikes from its default video player, unofficial browser extension “Return YouTube Dislike” reveals that the video has already been “downvoted” over 16,000 times, and upvoted less than 900 times — leading to more than a 95% negative feedback rating for the announcement. Public comments on the video remain open and, for the most part, follow in this trend.

Ubisoft is one of the first video game publishers to announce its commitment to future NFT/blockchain mechanics, with this “Ubisoft Quartz” video representing the first mainstream premiere of a dedicated NFT mechanic implemented in the blockbuster AAA gaming market. As to whether this initial response will give Ubisoft or any of its contemporaries pause for thought remains to be seen.
